TOMORROW’S LEADERS TODAY

Tomorrow’s Leaders Today are a group of passionate Waterbury youth working to cultivate and connect resources to help Waterbury families lead their best lives: Healthy, Active, and Fun. Founded by Waterbury Career Academy students Daiana, Danielle and Ramona, this driven group of community health advocates have researched and analyzed data to identify the current trends in child and adolescent health and well-being, and the challenges faced by the youth in the Waterbury community. The future of this community depends on a focus and a change to educate families and connect them to the resources available in this community and beyond. This site is a conversation, a connection and a hub for local and national resources to achieve the best lives here in Waterbury, CT.

Getting (and Staying) Active

Think Outside The Box

Think Outside The Box

Let’s face it, some kids just aren’t that into sports, but that shouldn’t mean they spend their childhood glued to a screen. Look for other ways to get your child active that he or she will enjoy! This could mean dancing, swimming, or even going out for a nice walk.

Encourage your child’s fitness (and your own!) by getting active together. Suggest a family hike, a game of catch, or a trip to the park together. You don’t need expensive equipment or special classes to encourage your child to exercise!

Limit Screen Time

Limit Screen Time

Experts recommend that kids get no more than 1-2 hours of screen time per day, whether that’s watching TV, surfing the web, or playing video games. Encourage active alternatives to these more passive pastimes, such as shooting hoops, walking the dog, or playing tag.

Healthy Habits

Healthy Mind

Healthy Mind

A healthy body relies on having a healthy mind. Stress can lead to binge-eating, inactivity, anxiety and other health problems. S.ome solutions for dealing with stress include writing in a journal, meditating, listening to music or trying yoga.

Eat Right

Eat Right

Junk food is quick and cheap... but did you know you could take steps towards a healthier lifestyle with affordable, nutritious snacks? Try replacing potato chips with carrot sticks with salad dressing for a better crunchy snack.

Stay Hydrated

Stay Hydrated

A healthy body requires water to properly function. Make sure you and your child are staying healthy by drinking eight 8oz. glasses of water each day. Drinking enough water is vital for making sure all of your organs function properly!
